So what is this art coaching thing?

I am a guide for all things artistic. I’d like to walk with you, encourage you, challenge you and help you find and make significant progress on your next big artistic idea. And if you don’t have a big idea yet, I’ll help you find it.

I welcome all experience levels types of art – from creatively curious to professional artists. I’ve been an avid crafter since childhood and spent my double decade career in graphic and digital design. I’m excited to put my skills to use making your artistic dreams come true. More about me.

First and foremost, we will follow your curiosity for it is the root of all creative ideas.

Art coaching is making art messes, having art fun and identifying how you can get more art in your life.

“45 minutes of creative activity significantly lessens stress in the body, regardless of artistic experience or talent.”

—Priscilla Frank, source

Where did art coaching come from?

My version of art coaching pulls ideas from:

  • Life coaching: Goal setting and deep questions.

  • Art therapy: Playing through art for self-expression and your own pleasure.

  • Art classes: Giving structured (gentle) feedback tailored to your visual medium.

  • Graphic design: Teaching design principles when helpful. Practicing your craft.

  • UX design: Creating thought maps and graphics to help reflect and set goals.

Really, my approach pulls from all my life experience. I encourage fun and the joy of iteration from improv. I welcome stillness and listening I’ve learned through meditation. I’m not afraid of blowing bubbles and making mud pies because my childhood self is alive and well. When was the last time you created art?

What is NOT art coaching?

Therapy, art dealing. I do conduct workshops, but they are focused on teaching you how to come up with your own unique expression and path rather than mimicking my style. We’ll cover things like how to motivate yourself, keep yourself on track, and put energy into practicing your craft. I’m not giving you fish, I’m teaching you how to fish and where to find them. Right now I’m currently only coaching adults.

FAQ

  • Anyone from full-time artists to people who are curious and wish they knew how to make art. I have a passion for welcoming people of all ages, races, religions, and abilities. Art is universal and I want to make it accessible to all. My approach taps into your own personal values and self-expression, so you set the direction. I’m here to support and encourage you, unless it is intolerance you preach.

  • Visual art can include any kind of self-expression. I work with people who paint, sculpt, sew, wood carve, or any other type of physical expression. There may be a meaningful outcome, or it may simply be the process that the maker enjoys. If I haven’t done it myself, I welcome the opportunity to explore with you! Most of what I do is universal hang ups, goals, and finding meaning that crosses different artistic expressions.

  • At this point, no. I work with adults of all ages, ethnicities, genders, and walks of life. If you have a high schooler who is looking to discern their artistic expression, feel free to reach out and we can discuss your specific need.
